DataPult Desktop Quick Start: Step by Step

5 steps to creating an interactive visualization (map) of your data for 1 year.

Step 1. Paste or type your data into Excel.

Required columns Region and Parameter. In this case, the Parameter is the volume of sales per region. The first column, year, is optional and you can enter it directly in the program later. There may be several Parameter columns. In this case, they follow each other. The columns Year, Region and Parameters can be in any column and the naming is arbitrary, the program will automatically find them among the data.

Step 2. Export data into program

Click on the Add-Ins button and then Create DataPult

Step 3. Refinement of the regions and formation of visualization.

The program is automatically loaded with data from Excel. Not recognized (incorrect) regions are highlighted in red. You can edit them at once or do it later. Geo-map is selected automatically. If necessary, change the selection. Click Ok

Step 4. Customize map and diagram layout.

Select the appropriate visualizer tab (1) and configure layout (2)

Step 5. Screenshots.

The map is ready! After selecting the desired image resolution it will be saved in png format.

Creating a dynamic visualization (map) of your data over several years.

The mechanism of "intelligent" parsing data will automatically sort the data by year. It is only necessary to indicate the year of data in each row. Data for different years may either follow one another:

Or be jumbled up:

The steps for exporting the data into the program are analogous to creating a map for only 1 year (see above)

Adding data for several years results in a Play button appearing on the map and diagrams. Pressing this will animate the map.

Saving an animated map in avi format

This feature has not yet been implemented. We plan to have it available in future versions. You will receive notification of its release upon starting the program. You can also sign up for the site news at www.datapult.info/en. Until then, for recording videos, you may use one of the services provided on the internet, such as the free clip2net.

Example of recording a dynamic map using clip2net.

Click on the clip2net icon in the tray (1) and select "Capture Video" (2) from the menu

Stretch the clip2net video recording window across the desired DataPult Desktop area. Start the recording by pressing the "Record" button (1), then start the map animation by pressing "Play" (2). Press "Ok" to stop recording (3).

A new "preview recording" window will appear. Press "save" (1), enter the file name (2) and save. The animation is saved in AVI format. Animated maps in avi format can easily be distributed to the Internet, uploaded on YouTube or imbedded into a PowerPoint presentation. The quality of the avi recording can be regulated in the clip2net settings.
